Some type of flute is believed to exist or have existed in every human culture there ever was. It's one of the world's oldest and most versatile musical instruments. Flutes From Around the World is almost as much about history, diversity, physics and human creativity as it is about beautiful music.
The presentation was originally designed for children in grades 4 through 6 but age appropriate presentations can be made available for students from the first grade through college undergraduate school.
The program will feature performances on a wide variety of flutes and whistles from Asia, Africa, Europe and North and South America. Highlights include the Native American cedar flute, the Egyptian ney, a glass flute, tin whistle, pan pipes, a homemade flute and toys (including the nose flute, slide whistle, water bottles and bird whistles). Replicas of early and ancient flutes are also available, as well as the more familiar Boehm system flute. Original poetry, intriguing photographs, and amusing stories round out the presentation.
