Michael Davis is an award-winning flutist, composer and teacher in the Twin Cities, Minnesota area, who
performs on flutes of silver, cedar and bamboo as well as the electronic wind instrument (EWI). He received his Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from the University of South Carolina where, as a freshman, he won the concerto-aria competition and became the university's first woodwind student to win a national first prize in music performance (Music Teachers' National Association). With advanced degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Columbia University Teachers College, he has taught flute and advanced aural skills at Iowa State University and is a proud alumnus of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point. Dr. Davis is a performing artist member of Thursday Musical and a two-time prize-winning finalist for the prestigious McKnight Fellowship for Performing Artists. His classical music compositions have been performed all over the United States and in Canada and Europe, on music faculty recitals, on National Public Radio, at the National Flute Association convention and by nationally recognized music ensembles like Zeitgeist, the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus and the Seattle Flute Society Flute Choir. In addition to being an MMTA master certified teacher of flute and piano theory, he is currently a candidate for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Music Composition at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. When he is not making music, he can be found assisting in the academic support program at Saint Paul College, ushering at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts or working security for the Saint Paul Saints Baseball Club.
